Alexandra Mykoliw Dolnycky (November 26th, 1922 / April 20th, 2018) passed away peacefully in Montreal in her 95th year, surrounded by her loved ones. She will be deeply missed by her children Alexander (Christina), William and Maria (Sergiy), and granddaughter Maria. She brought tremendous joy to all those close to her in her final years, and will forever be remembered for her courage, strength, kindness, and love of people.
Born in Nastasiv (Ternopil), Ukraine, Alexandra graduated from teachers’ college and worked as a schoolteacher in her hometown. She left Ukraine with her family in 1944 and lived as a displaced person in Austria before coming to Canada in 1949. In 1952, she married Andrew Dolnycky (d. 1982) in Montreal, and they had three children: Alexander, William and Maria. During her time in Montreal, Alexandra worked passionately for numerous Ukrainian organizations, and assisted many immigrants in adapting to their new life in Canada. She never hesitated to give her time, advice and a helping hand to those who needed it.
Panachyda at 7:30 pm on April 26th and burial to follow after the funeral service on April 27th at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery (4601, Ch. Côte-des-Neiges, Montreal, Qc).
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Sophie’s Orthodox Cathedral in Montreal will be greatly appreciated, where Alexandra was a long-time member.
