John Kushneryk was born in Shulhanivka, Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine, on September 3, 1923. In 1928 at the age of 5, he immigrated to Montreal, Canada.

John was a machinist and pipefitter and union man. He was treasurer of his local branch of the International Association of Machinist & Aerospace Workers, Lodge 631. During the Second World War he built heaters for corvette class warships. After the war, he worked at Darling Brothers until his retirement. At Darling Brothers he built and installed the largest boilers and condensers for Montreal’s biggest institutions. In 1953 he married Annie Panchyshyn and raised a family. Annie passed away in 2015 after 62 years of marriage. In 1986 John took early retirement and helped raise his granddaughter Ashley. In 1999 he helped raise his grandson Adam.

On December 29, 2018, he passed away quietly at Ste. Anne’s Hospital. John leaves behind his son Steven Kushneryk, daughter Lynda Kushneryk (passed away in 2012), daughter Olga Kushneryk and son-in-law Bill Mavridis as well as grandchildren Ashley Kushneryk (Husband David Goldbaum), John Kushneryk, Catherine Kushneryk, Alexandra Kushneryk and Adam Mavridis and great-grandson Elijah John Goldbaum.
