Shreyas Roy March 1, 1979 - July 23, 2017 Shreyas Kumar Roy, beloved son of Geeta and Ajoy Roy, and brother of Preyas Roy, born March 1, 1979, passed away July 23, 2017. He was born in New York City and raised by his loving Naani and Naana in Patna, in the state of Bihar, India, until moving to Syracuse, New York. An ever inquisitive mind, Shreyas completed an undergraduate degree with majors in Chemistry, English, and Economics, and minors in Drama and Spanish, at Le Moyne College. His thesis was entitled "Quantum Love and the Screaming Electron: a Misinterpretation of Science for Poetry." Subsequently he pursued his medical degree at McGill University, where he graduated as a legendary member of the class of 2006. Shreyas went on to complete residency training in General Surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University, where he won national teaching awards, published extensively on lung disease in sepsis, was the lead guitarist for the "Failed States" ska-punk band, and was Chief Surgical Resident. Most recently Shreyas became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada after completing a fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at Hopital Ste-Justine, Université de Montréal, where he was about to begin a position as an attending surgeon in pediatric hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplants.

Shreyas left the world at a time in his life where he was at his best, professionally and personally, and much of this was because he and his partner Veronique had found a true and perfect love and their greatest happiness together.

Shreyas loved his family, friends, music, his dog Umberto, cooking Bihari food, the tireless pursuit of social justice, and any adventure that happened to come his way.

For all who knew Shreyas, his presence, exuberance, boundless compassion, and definitive love of life radiated like a Sun.

He will be missed by everyone who was lucky enough to have crossed his path.

In delivering the graduation speech to the McGill Faculty of Medicine Class of 2006, he stated "Let us find common cause with the destitute sick. We go to work each day to care for human life. Who better than us to lead this effort? We could be a human bridge across the divides of economics, politics, and class."
