It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Fedir Bezpalok on April 10, 2019 at the age of 86 with his family at his side at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital.
Beloved husband and lifelong partner for 64 years of Nadia (Sulyha), devoted father & father in law to Ivan, Irka (Michael), Bohdan (Danya). Cherished grandfather (Dido) to Stephan, Laryssa, Matvij & Oleksandr. He will also be sadly missed by his 3 sisters (Hanya, Marika & Nadia) in Ukraine as well as numerous friends and family in Ukraine, USA and Canada.
Upon being separated from his family and home in Verbiv, Berezhanska Oblast in Ukraine at a very young age of 13, his journey took him through Ingolstadt Germany, Ottawa and finally Montreal, Quebec. Always true to his Ukrainian soul, he dedicated his life to fostering a healthy & active Ukrainian youth community through various sports programs, cultural activities and organizational youth programs (CYM). Through his efforts, he was able to provide a great deal of Montreal’s youth with the ability to compete and to experience what collaborative effort and teamwork can accomplish. He ran multiple sports teams but was most renowned for soccer. This could be attributed to the fact the he was an avid soccer player who was given the opportunity to play for the SA Ukraina Soccer club. It is here where the club grew & developed in the 1950’s, hoisting numerous Championship Cups while bolstering the heart and spirit of the Ukrainian community. He was also the Cultural Director for the Ukrainian Youth Organization (CYM) for a countless number of years. Here, he was involved with coordinating summer camps, choirs and a multitude of social activities. His belief in life was “Always remember where you come from to know where you are going”…. and to this end he instilled to all he came into contact with just how important it is to keep a Ukrainian heart and be proud of it.
Away from the city, “Werchowyna” was his second home. Joyous laughter, friendships, a song, a drink and a joke were always in abundance along with countless hours of hard work by so many in building the Oselia for all to enjoy. May God keep you well and always in our hearts.
