Robert J. Cormier passed away peacefully on November 18th  at the St Raphael Hospice in Montreal after a short and courageous battle with cancer. He was 57.

Robert will be missed by his mother Thérèse (Leblanc) of Moncton, his four sisters, Pauline Cormier (Mike), Claudette Ward (Randy), Jacqueline Gillcash (Randy) of Moncton, Lise Cormier of Montréal, his two brothers, Ted (Anita), and André (Robin Streb) of Moncton and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nephews and nieces. He also leaves his long time friends Kevin Brady and Bill Ryan, many colleagues across Canada, and those friends he met during his travels.

He was predeceased by his sister Suzanne Caissie and her daughter Angèle in 1989 of Moncton, his father Paul in 2007 of Moncton, and his brother Bernard (Sharon) in 2011 of Jordan River, British Columbia.

Robert will be remembered for his love, compassion, generosity, and his keen sense of humour and honesty, which he retained until the very end of his life. All who knew him, knew him as fiercely loyal and dedicated to his family and friends. He brought many of those qualities to his career, which was defined by his devoted service to others through his thirty years at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs of the Government of Canada.

He began his career in New Brunswick as a Division Counsellor in Saint John NB, and moved to Montréal to eventually become a Manager, Regional Director and a Senior Director of Strategic Affairs. He made his mark by piloting many important issues: mental health, homelessness, employee wellness, coaching and mentoring, and directed support.

He received a Bachelor of Arts (Université of Ottawa) in 1987, Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Social Work (McGill University) in 2002, and a Coaching Certificate (Concordia University) in 2016.

He will be remembered at a Celebration of his life at  Alfred Dallaire MEMORIA , 1111 Laurier Ouest, Outremont, Friday November 22nd,  6pm to 10pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
