It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eugenia Znoj (née Bak) peacefully on February 7th, at the age of 96. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Stanislaw Znoj, she was a devoted and loving mother of Richard (Cathy), Lillian and George (Nathalie), proud grandmother of Alexander Gemmell as well as Thomas, Evelyn, Natalie, Gabriel, Julia and Benjamin; and great-grandmother to Tyler, Hanna, Jacob, Félix, Rose, Logan and Conor.

Eugenia was born in 1923 in a small village near Rzeszow, Eastern Poland. In 1939, at the age of 16, she with many others, was taken by force, to work in Germany. She worked in a blanket factory in winters and on a farm near Landstuhl during the summers. In 1948, while waiting in a Displaced Persons’ camp, she took the opportunity to emigrate to Canada as part of a Canadian government program. After having fulfilled the two-year work commitment as a nanny for a doctor’s family in Ste-Agathe, she moved to Montreal. There she met and married Stanislaw and they had three children. Eugenia will be remembered for her generosity, compassion for others, strong faith and caring for her children & grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday February 17, 2019 at: Alfred Dallaire Memoria, 3254 rue de Bellechasse, in Montreal, from 2:00 to 5:00pm, with a Rosary at 4:00 pm. Funeral Service on Monday, February 18th at 1:00pm at Our Lady of Czestochowa Polish Church, 2550 Gascon Avenue, Montréal, followed by coffee and cake in the church’s hall.

The family would like to thank the staff of the CHSLD Polonais Marie-Curie-Sklodowska and her care-givers/companions for their outstanding care in the past 10 years of her declining health.
