It is with profound sadness but not without some measure of relief that we announce the passing of our Dad Luigi Pugliese who passed away on February 28th, 2022 at the age of 84. Luigi was a man of few words. You had to listen closely to grasp his lessons that were often delivered in a colourful blend of French, Italian and English. He had little patience for “preets” and “chandeliers” in his home and abhorred any form of waste, whether in the form of words or shoe soles caused by exercise. He was as clever as he was strict, with a keen knack for making us laugh at the most inopportune moments. He was simply him and we loved him.

He leaves behind his wife. As tender as she is strong-willed, as he was, she remained by his side to the end. Married for 57 years, it had to be Rita Pugliese (Salcito), his dream girl and the only girl who could endure without strangling him. He also leaves behind his three daughters and his three priceless chandeliers Ada (Renato), Lucy (Mark) and Stephanie (Tilo) and his precious grandchildren Aydan, Calvin, Lorelei and Jace for whom a void will be forever felt. He also says adieu to Hichem, the only brother he has ever known and loved.

Dad, you taught your three girls to be strong, resilient and independent and we will be forever grateful to you for the lessons we learned.

To the end, you were clear: no ceremony or tears. Only that we unite and celebrate your way, with a few “barzellette”.  We’ll do it your way dad, to the end.

We’ll see you again some day and look forward to our next argument.
