Mr. Raymond Gervais

1946 - 2018

Raymond Gervais passed away on January 6, 2018. His charisma, wisdom and generosity were noted. Major artist on the Canadian scene, his innovative work pursued new paths for conceptual art, performance and sound exploration. Whether working in a record store as a young man, organizing new music concerts, programming music at Radio-Canada, or writing multiple essays over time, he is remembered fondly by many. He received the Ozias Leduc Prize (Fondation Émile Nelligan, 2010) and the Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts (2014).

He was married to Chantal Pontbriand, and is the father of Antoine Gervais (Carmen Gabriel) and grand-father of Arthur.
