Georgette Shanks Ferland

Mrs. Georgette Shanks Ferland

1921 - 2019

Madame Georgette Shanks Ferland passed away on August 2, 2019 at the venerable age of 98 of a natural death, at the Auclair Nursing Home in Montreal. She was the third child of four of mother Madame Rosina Savaria and father Monsieur William Shanks. In 1945, she married Monsieur Christian Ferland with whom she had three children. Georgette was a loving wife and a caring and devoted mother. She leaves in mourning her children Marc, Luc and Maryse, her grandchildren Gabrielle and Benoit and her great-grand-daughter Béatrice, born recently on May 11, 2019, daughter of Benoit Ferland and his wife Nadia Shafiei.

She had a busy and fulfilling life. During the 2nd World War while in her young years, she worked for Bell Canada, and then for Montreal Tramway. While her children were still young, she followed many evening courses in the Arts & Applied Arts domain, an unconventional project for the time.
In the 60’s, she returned to work as an interior decorator at the famous downtown Eaton’s department store for many years, as well as in office work a few years later, which kept her alert and active for many years. She also travelled in approximately fifteen countries with her husband, friends, other members of her family, as well as with various Associations.

Georgette has always been active, coquette, studious, cultivated and sociable. She organized and attended numerous receptions all her life and she was an excellent and passionate bridge player for more than 30 years.

Petite, yet affirmative, with a spirited sense of humor, responsible, foresighted and generous with her loved ones, Georgette was a strong pillar for our family. Her grayish blue eyes look will be deeply missed. A private Commemoration to celebrate Georgette’s life will be held on Friday September 13, 2019, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Résurrection of Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery, followed by the Resting of the ashes ceremony at the Jean-Paul II Mausoleum.
