Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 11am

It is with great sadness and heavy heart that the family of Wasyl Filijowycz announces his peaceful passing on May 25, 2022, in his 100th year of life.

He was born in Bereziw, Ukraine on December 13, 1922. Due to WW2 he fled from his beloved homeland where he ended up in Landeck, Austria, at a DP camp. It was here that he had the opportunity to learn a trade and become a tailor. With this skill he was able to immigrate to Canada. He began his journey by boarding the ship, SS Marine Falcon, arriving in Halifax on June 23, 1948. He made his way to Montreal where he later met his wife Maria, and together with devotion to hard work, they raised two children.

Wasyl loved his family and his beloved Ukraine. He was known for having a sense of humour, enjoyed socializing and engaged in supporting the Ukrainian community.

He leaves behind his loving children Marika (Andrey) and John, grandchildren Laryssa (Robb) and Paul and great grandchildren Harper Darcia and Amara Charlotte.

Visitation on Friday June 10, 2022 from 5pm to 9pm, with Panachyda at 7:30pm.

Funeral will be held on June 11, 2022 at ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY Ukrainian Catholic Church at 6185 10th Ave, Montreal, at 11:00 am followed by the burial at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery.
