M. Zenon Bryniawsky

Born in Humniska, Ukraine, Zenny moved to Montreal as a young child in 1948, where he attended Loyola High School and University of British Columbia (Master in Social Work).

He was predeceased by his first wife of 41 years, Huguette (née Michaud) and his parents Rev. Wasyl Bryniawsky and Jaroslava (née Hawryluk). Following a heartbreaking battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) diagnosed in 2013, Zenny died peacefully with his wife by his side on Friday, April 13, 2018.

He leaves to mourn his much-loved wife of 7 years, Marika Farmus. He leaves behind his sister Marika (the late Jaroslav Czolij), nephews Eugene Czolij (Anna), Melania (Frédéric), Zachary, Julia; Stephane, and Sofia; Godson and nephew Rev. Bohdan Czolij (Tanya), Olenka (Rev. Alexander Laschuk), Osanna; Ostap; Ksenya (Liam), Mariana; Ilia, Yvan and Lesyk; his brother Dr. George Bryniawsky, (Marian), nephews Peter (Cecelta), Melanee and Andrew; Michael (Shelisa), Angelique, Bianca, and Daniel; and niece Christina (Foti),

In 1961, he and his father Rev. Wasyl established l’Entraide ukrainienne de Montréal, to serve those in need. He spent 21years as Executive Director at Catholic Community Services (CCS) (1987-2008). President, Consultant, Lecturer and Speaker, Ethica Inc., President, Canadian Association of Social Workers  (1975-77), President, L’Ordre des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec (OTSTCFQ), The John Howard Society of Quebec, Ukrainian Catholic Education Foundation (UCEF), Ukrainian Canadian Congress Montreal Executive, PLAST Ukrainian Youth Association.

With his unique sense of humor and contagious smile, he easily made a network of lifelong friendships. Zenny was an avid golfer and an aficionado of fine scotch, hand-rolled cigars and unique pipes. He was well known for his big heart and generosity. He found his happiness in helping others.

In 2010, Zenny started a new and cherished life chapter with Marika, whom he could make double over with laughter like no one else. When Zenny’s illness took hold fully, she stood by him with unwavering devotion and self-sacrifice. Though Zenny was deprived of a normal life many years before his passing Marika made those years as joyful as she could for him, visiting him daily to offer soothing words and walks in the sunshine.

The family will receive condolences at Alfred-Dallaire MEMORIA, 3254 rue de Bellechasse on Tuesday, April 17, from 7:00 pm to 9:00pm. The memorial service (Panachyda) will be held at 7:30pm. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 18, at, 10:00am, at the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Parish (6185 10^TH Avenue corner de Bellechasse Street). Burial to follow at the Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery, (4601 Côte-des-Neiges Road).
