Mrs. Francine Kochtubajda née Valentowitz

Passed away peacefully Friday, July 16, 2021 in her 89th year, predeceased by her loving husband Iwan. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Bohdan (Lillian) and son-in-law Peter; Baba to Matthew (Stephanie), Andrew (Elice), Stefanie (Mark), Christina, Sarah (Patrick), Alexandra, Christopher and John; Prababa to Taylor, Jeremy, Bradley, Josie, Brea, Corbin and Athena. She is also survived by extended family members and friends across Canada, the U.S., Belgium, Ukraine and Greece.

Francine was predeceased by her parents Johannes and Marta; siblings Jeannine, Marie Jeanne, Annie, Jean, Théodore and Edmond; infant son Ivancho and daughter Geraldine. She was born in Genk, Belgium.  After the war, she and Ivan met and were married in 1949 in Belgium. They immigrated to Canada in 1951 where they would settle in Montreal and raise their family. Francine was a vibrant and outgoing matriarch of the family and an icon to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devout and active member of the church, who loved cooking and spending time with her family.  

The family will receive condolences on Thursday July 22, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (a Panachyda service will take place at 7:30 p.m.) at Alfred Dallaire Memoria, 3254 Bellechasse, Montreal.  A funeral service will take place the following day at 10:00 a.m. at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. She will be laid to rest at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery.
