It is with deep sorrow that the family of Gregory Martyn announces his peaceful passing on Dec 31 2016, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with pneumonia.
Born 95 years ago in Ukraine, he was the youngest of 13 children. After WWII, he met his wife Lora in Germany, where they married in 1947 and then immigrated to Canada. Life in a new country was a struggle at first, but Gregory being a tailor, found work in the garment trade. Eventually he built his own business, where he then employed more new arrivals. He and Lora raised 5 children and sheltered numerous pets. Able to speak numerous languages, he made many lasting friendships and relations during his time. He was a genuine, funny, intelligent, kind, and generous man; who also enjoyed playing chess, going to the country, and loved his sports teams.
May he rest in peace, and meet up again with all his family and friends who have preceded him. Gregory will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Lora; his children Borys (Lydia), Roman, Susanna, Lora, and Greg (Colette); his grandchildren Eric (Christina), and Andrea; and great-grandchildren Sophie and Daniel.
