It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Mario Carelli on June 16 at the age of 91.

He is survived by Maria De Falco, his loving spouse of 62 years, and joins his adored son Eugenio (Marie-Claude Lambert) in heaven’s workshops. He is also survived by his beloved daughter Gilda (Johnny Calabrese) and son Robert (Connie Scuccimarri), his brother Augusto (Domenica) and his sisters Giovannina (Pietro) and Ida (late Biagio), his grandchildren David, Megan, Alexandre, Juliette, Emily and Jenna, his many nieces and nephews, as well as his many relatives and friends, who are deeply saddened and will miss him dearly. He also joins his late brothers (and sisters-in-law), Antonio (Maria) and Carmine (Irene), and his late sisters(and brothers-in-law), Maria (Isidoro) and Oresta (Giuseppe).

Hard-working, humble, generous and a food and wine enthusiast, Mario was a soft-spoken, elegant and gentle man who cared for everyone around him and opened his door to friends and neighbours. In his over 40 year career, Mario worked as a crane operator on some of Montreal’s then tallest buildings and later as a machinist in aircraft-part manufacturing. He made a life for himself and his family in Montreal after leaving Italy in 1956 and was committed to preparing a better life for his children. He shall live on through those he loved.

The family will receive condolences at Alfred Dallaire Memoria (2159 Saint-Martin Boul. East, Laval) on Monday June 20 from 2pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm, and on Tuesday June 21 from 11:30am to 1pm.

The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday June 21 at 1:30pm at Church of La Visitation-de-la-Bienheureuse-Vierge-Marie (1829 Gouin Boul. East, Montreal).

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests a donation to the Fondation de l’Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal, or to any other charitable organization of your choice.
