Mrs. Nadia Verty Cechmistro

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nadia Verty-Cechmistro on March 29, 2024, at the age of 88. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Theodore Cechmistro.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children Helene, Olya (Joe), Leonid (Sylvie with stepson, Zenon) as well as her beloved granddaughter, Ariana (Jake) and grandson Brendan (Laura).

She had a deep commitment to the Ukrainian community in Montreal and will be remembered for the passion she brought to the many committees she worked on. She was a long-term member of the executive of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, Montreal branch and took part in many committees including the commemoration of the Millenium of Christianity of Ukraine and the 100-year Anniversary of Ukrainian immigration to Canada.

Her proudest achievement was heading L’Entraide Ukrainienne du Montreal. She worked tirelessly and brought all her passion and commitment to that organization for over 20 years.

Those close to her will remember her humor, her fearlessness and the passion she brought to everything she did.

The family will receive condolences on Tuesday April 2, 2024, from 2pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm at Alfred Dallaire Memoria, (3254 rue de Bellechasse). The Panachyda will be at 7:30pm. The funeral mass will be held at Saint Sophie’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral (6250 12th Ave, Montreal) on April 3rd at 10 am followed by a private burial at Mont-Royal Cemetery.
