On Sunday October 1st, 2023 Zenovia Foichuk Safulko, answered God’s call and entered into eternal life at the age of 86.  Her passing came unexpectedly at the conclusion of a divine morning church service, surrounded by family, celebrating the baptism of her great granddaughter.

Devoted wife of the late Peter Safulko (June 10th, 2022) for 63 years. Proud and caring mother of Karl (Karin), Stephen (Pascale), Sandra (Charles) and Daniel (Christie). Cherished grandmother of Christopher (Lydia), Zachary (Janka), Lia, Andrew (Jamie), Jacob, Kevin, Chloë, Elizabeth, Allyson, Jessica, Natasha, Samantha and Thomas. Adoring great-grandmother of Henry and Alma. Loving aunt to Julie Ann and John (Lucy) Barna. Predeceased by her beloved parents Karol and Maria Foichuk.

Known to many as Julie, she grew up in Rosemont, cultivating an appreciation for music while amassing a respectable collection of vinyl from Xavier Cugat to the Four Aces. Her unbridled zest for life, matched only by an effervescent smile that lit up each and every room she entered,  would take centre stage whenever she seized the opportunity to polka her way across the dance floor at a malanka or gala ball.

Upon marrying Peter, she moved to Hampstead to raise her 4 children, of whom she remained unfailingly and fiercely proud, and where she lived a long and happy life.

Zenovia’s love for the sun, sand and surf knew no bounds. With her family in tow, she frequented beaches south of the Canadian border to soak up the rays and inhale the sea salt air. Always hand in hand with her husband Peter, she cruised the world. Julie loved making new friends and was socially engaged wherever they travelled.

She leaves a monumental hole in our hearts but also a lifetime of incredibly joyful memories. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike and will remain forever in our hearts.

                              “Vichnaya Pamyat!!!”

The family wishes to thank everyone who has expressed their condolences.

Visitation will take place on Friday October 20th from 5:00pm to 9:00pm (Panachyda at 7:30pm) at Les Espaces MEMORIA, 3254 rue de Bellechasse in Rosemont. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday October 21st at 9:30am at Saint Sophie Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral located at 6255 boul. St. Michel in Rosemont, followed by the burial at Mount Royal Cemetery at 11:15am.
