It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Francis Engel, surrounded by his family that he cherished so deeply, on April 18, 2023 in Montreal, at the age of 66. He was the son of the late PR Charles Engel and of the late Édith Braillard as well as brother of late Christiane, He will be fondly remembered by his loving spouse Dr. Diane Francoeur; his daughter Natacha and her children, Clara and Charles; his sons Victor and Léopold; his sister Lucy and brother Marc; as well as his many friends and colleagues of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at LaSalle Hospital, where he practiced since 1988 and where he was greatly appreciated and admired.

The family will receive condolences at the MEMORIA complex, 1111 Laurier Ave. West, Montreal, on Thursday, April 27th, from 2–5 p.m. and from 7–9 p.m., as well as on Friday, April 28th, from 10–11 a.m. The funeral mass in memory of Dr. Engel will be held immediately following the visitation on April 28 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint-Viateur Church, 1175 Laurier Ave. West, Montreal.

The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Claude Cyr and his CUSM palliative care team for helping and guiding us, and especially Dr. John Storring and his team for their encouragement and professionalism all along the difficult treatments for Francis. And obviously, all our friends and colleagues who over the past few months have accompanied us, supported us, fed us, consoled us, and relieve us at the last minute so that we could be by his side till the end while he was courageously fighting this formidable battle.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Foundation of the LaSalle Hospital for the birth unit.

Death is not the end, but an opportunity to take a break and enjoy all the good times we had in our lives.
