Mr. Frédéric Metz

1944 - 2014

Montreal, August 11th 2014 - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frédéric Metz, designer, associate professor of the École de design de l’UQAM and leading design figure in Quebec. His passing occurred on the morning of August 10th, 2014.

Born in Switzerland in 1944, Frédéric Metz moved to Quebec in 1967, one year after obtaining his degree at the prestigious Kunstgewerbeschule in Biel/Bienne. He dedicated over thirty years to the development of the graphic design sector at the UQAM University and contributed significantly to the growth and exposure of design in Quebec. His design vision and outspokenness made him a public leading figure in the sector.

He leaves behind his husband Dario Bivona, his sister Anne-Lise Badertscher, his brother-in-law Alfred Badertscher, his nephew Silvain Badertscher (Nadine Grolimud), his cousins Kurt and Rolf Mets, his close family and friends, his colleagues and many other loved ones.

All persons who wish to pay their respects are invited to an evening commemoration at Centre de design de l’UQAM (1440 Sanguinet, Montreal), on Thursday, August 28th, 2014 at 5pm. The family asks that instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Frédéric Metz Fund at the Fondation de l’UQAM
