We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Romeo Zajac, peacefully, at home, surrounded by his family, on the evening of Wednesday, August 17, 2022, in his 90th year, following an illness. Beloved husband of 62 years to Mary (Kruk), devoted father of Ronald, Richard and Andrew, and doting grandfather to eleven grandchildren.

Romeo had the hands of a master craftsman and the soul of an artist. He found joy in his workshop, impressing everyone with the beauty and precision of his many creations. He had an infinite capacity for wonder at everything from small plants to large aircraft, found entire universes of beauty in every symphony and sonata, and imparted this appreciation of music to anyone fortunate enough to listen.

Romeo was a kind, thoughtful and wise man, who passed on his wisdom through his words and his example, not least of which the grace and mischievous humour with which he faced his final days, always thinking of others’ well-being.

Romeo was born in Montreal, to Nicolas Zajac and Janina Robashewska. He is survived by his wife Mary, sons Ronald (Claire), Richard (Angela) and Andrew (Kareen), and grandchildren Shaye (Logan), Ethan (Jessa), Sam (Blaike), Noah, Jaime, Alissa, Éliane, Emma, Janina, Annie, and Théo. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Robert Kruk (Manuela), and many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Alice, Irene and Julian.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 28, beginning at noon, with a celebration of Romeo’s life at 2 p.m. and small reception to follow, at Alfred Dallaire Memoria, 3254 Rue de Bellechasse, Montréal.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Romeo’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
